Love is in the air

Valentine's Day projects for every grade level

These were inspired by Robert Indiana's LOVE sculpture. We talked about the importance of signing your work as Robert Indiana didn't receive much credit for this design. He didn't want to compromise the design with a copy-write or signature, so he never made any money off this well known design that has been replicated all over the world. Created by 4th-7th graders.

My sample bee <3

First grade! "Bee Mine". Lots of work for me planning out all of the parts but it was worth it.

A one day Kindergarten project, fill the heart with shapes, glueing each piece individually and precisely to fill as many white areas as possible.

"Map of my heart"
4-8th grade students were asked to fill these hearts with things they love or care about.

This one is unfinished, but he decided to make his own design, amazing!

Line Designs

An easy one day project. We only get 30 minutes for each class, so sometimes its nice to do a quick project the students can make and take home with them. We talked about the Art Element: Line. We came up with a list of different types of lines, eventually they started listing different shapes lines could be composed of. For example, a line made of hearts, circles, stars, etc. Next, students drew their lines with sharpie, making sure each end touches the edge of the paper and proceeded to color in rainbow order.

Pop Art Cats

Here are some kitties based on Andy Warhol's "Sam" paintings. After a guided drawing, students fold paper into fours. Next, they colored each section individually (helpful if they color each square while the paper is folded. We were excited about the results and love all the bright colors!
